150 years: A crowd of school children, teachers, clergy, religious , laity and guests gathered for the 150th anniversary of St Stephen's Cathedral Brisbane.
Brisbane Archbishop Mark Coleridge led a large gathering of students, teachers, clergy, religious, church workers, parishioners, dignitaries, and guests in celebrating the 150th anniversary of the blessing and dedication of St Stephen’s Cathedral. During the Mass, Archbishop Coleridge highlighted how the cathedral has not only shaped the Catholic community in Brisbane but also the city itself. The celebration featured a guard of honor with students holding school flags and the symbolic message stick that has traveled to all parishes in the Brisbane Archdiocese this anniversary year.
Archbishop Coleridge reflected on the cathedral's ongoing legacy from 1874 to 2024, emphasizing that cathedrals, much like the Church, are never truly finished but are always a work in progress. He described St Stephen’s Cathedral as a monument to Easter and the self-emptying love of Christ, a place that keeps the memory and promise of paradise.
