Cairns Catholic Youth Ministry

Cairns Catholic Youth Ministry encourages and supports young people in the life of the Church.

Our vision is guided by the Australian Catholic Bishops’ goals for comprehensive youth ministry, which are:

  • To foster the personal and spiritual growth of each young person
  • To draw young people into responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community
  • To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.

Reach Youth Group

Reach is about inspiring ordinary youth to be extraordinary in loving others, caring for the poor in our midst, and making a difference in the world.

Through their engagement with Reach we hope that the young people find meaning and God’s purpose for their lives and grow to be confident and generous citizens willing to take on responsibility and challenges in the future.

Reach meets on a fortnightly basis on Sundays (3-5 pm) at Seville Mercy Conference Centre in Earlville.

Contact Priscilla O'Brien by email for more information.

St Thomas’s Youth Group, Mareeba

Everyone aged 12 – 15 is invited to have fun, unwind and get engaged in the Mareeba parish community!

St Thomas’s Youth Group meets fortnightly on Friday evenings from 6:30 – 8pm during the school term.

Contact Scott Gilbert on 0400 922 266 to find out more.

Youth For Christ (YFC)

YFC is a youth ministry of Couples for Christ, whose aim is to bring renewal to youth and young adults and to foster an environment where they can respond to God’s call to holiness.

YFC membership is open to all youth and young adults from 12 years of age to early 20’s.

Contact YFC by email for more information.

Vinnies Youth

Vinnies Youth is a volunteer-based organisation offering rewarding opportunities for young people to take action by engaging in their local community to address various social justice issues.

Volunteers are an integral part of the good works we do, both in schools and the wider community, as such we are committed to investing in the development and sustainability of those we work alongside. Whether you are student or teacher looking to engage your school or university in social justice or looking to volunteer your time. We offer a wide range of opportunities for you to learn, reflect and support your community.

Volunteer Opportunities

School Engagement

The St Vincent de Paul Society is passionate about supporting school communities to develop compassionate and emphatic socially aware students. We do this by offering a wide range of programs and services that provide a clear link to curriculum, with opportunities for teachers and students to support their local community by participating in the good works of the Society. We currently provide a number of engagement opportunities for students from year 4 to year 12, including classroom curriculum resources designed to support the subjects already being taught. We also provide a service-learning experience for teachers to further develop a deeper understanding of homelessness.

Community Engagement

Working in the community supporting our mission for an empathic, connected and inclusive society.  Different opportunities exist in tutoring, home visitation, social outreach, Christmas Appeal support, Children’s Education Fund support, household budgeting support, mentoring and more.
