Elections conducted at bishops’ plenary

MEDIA STATEMENT                                                                                       MAY 7, 2025

Australia’s Catholic bishops have been elected to national roles in such areas of education, safeguarding, social justice, liturgy and inter-faith relations.

Elections were conducted for commissions and advisory bodies at the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference plenary meeting in North Sydney.

The Permanent Committee, the body which oversees the Conference between plenaries, comprises: Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB (President), Bishop Greg Bennet (Vice President), Archbishop Peter A Comensoli, Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP, Archbishop Patrick O’Regan, Archbishop Antoine-Charbel Tarabay, Bishop Timothy Harris and Bishop Anthony Randazzo.

Bishops Commission for Catholic Education – chair Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP

Bishops Commission for Christian Unity and Inter-Religious Dialogue – chair Archbishop Amel Nona

Episcopal Panel for Doctrine and Morals – chair Bishop Anthony Ireland

Bishops Commission for Evangelisation, Laity and Ministry – chair Archbishop Christopher Prowse

Bishops Commission for Life, Family and Public Engagement – chair Archbishop Peter A Comensoli

Bishops Commission for Liturgy – chair Archbishop Patrick O’Regan

Episcopal Panel for Canon Law – chair Bishop Anthony Randazzo

Bishops Commission for Professional Standards and Safeguarding – chair Bishop Greg Bennet

Bishops Commission for Relations with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples – chair Bishop Tim Norton SVD
