National Catholic Safeguarding Standards
The Diocese has adopted and adheres to the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards. The Standards apply to all parishes, ministries, and agencies under the jurisdiction of the Bishop.
The Standards are drawn from the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and came into effect in 2019.
The Standards are endorsed by the Australian Catholic Bishops’ Conference and Catholic Religious Australia.
Safeguarding Commitment
The Diocese has zero tolerance for all forms of abuse and is committed to safeguarding everyone involved in its activities, ministries, and services.
The safety and wellbeing of children and adults at risk is paramount.
Reportable Conduct Scheme
The Diocese of Cairns is required to report and investigate allegations or convictions of child abuse or child-related misconduct made about their workers.
The scheme is designed to connect information across organisations, regulators and sectors to identify people who present a risk to the safety of children.
