Diocesan Council, Boards and Committees

Diocesan governance councils and advisory committees support the Bishop by offering guidance on pastoral, financial, and administrative matters across Church ministries.

Diocesan Pastoral Council

The Diocesan Pastoral Council (DPC) emerges as a key proposal from the 2025-26 Synod. Bringing together lay people and clergy from across the Diocese to support the Bishop in discernment and pastoral planning. Grounded in prayer, listening, and dialogue, the Council reflects on the lived experience of our diocesan community and helps shape priorities for mission and ministry. Informed by the spirit and insights of our Synod journey, it seeks to foster a future marked by shared responsibility, collaboration, and hope.

Applicants should be aware that participation involves the following commitments:

Demonstrated leadership capabilities
Members are expected to contribute to shared leadership through respectful listening, clear and thoughtful communication, collaboration with fellow members and active participation in group discernment. This includes a willingness to engage constructively with complex issues, support the collective direction of the Council and model the kind of servant leadership that strengthens the life of our local Church.

A commitment to synodality
Synodality calls us to walk together as a people of faith through ongoing processes of deep listening, dialogue, reflection and communal discernment. Members are expected to engage prayerfully and respectfully with diverse viewpoints, remain open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the wisdom that emerges from the group and consistently prioritising the common good over personal preference or individual agendas. This commitment ensures that consensus is shaped by genuine encounter and shared understanding.

A commitment to fostering diocesan wide communication and understanding
Members are called to serve with a diocesan-wide perspective, recognising their responsibility extends beyond their own parish to the wellbeing, unity and mission of the entire diocesan community. This includes listening attentively to local experiences, not to advocate solely for them, but to help the Council understand the broader reality of the diocese, while supporting clear and ongoing communication so parishioners remain informed, engaged and connected with its work. In this way, members act not as representatives of a single parish, but as collaborators in shaping the shared future of the whole diocese.
