The Diocese of Cairns recently welcomed a first-class relic of St Carlo Acutis and the internationally acclaimed Eucharistic Miracles Exhibition. Over the course of the week, approximately 1,600 people visited the exhibition and relic as they travelled through Cairns, Innisfail and Atherton.
People of all ages took the opportunity to learn more about the life of St Carlo and to explore the stories of Eucharistic miracles from around the world. Many visitors spent considerable time reading the displays, praying before the relic, and reflecting on the central place of the Eucharist in Catholic life.
Families, school groups, parishioners and visitors from across the diocese attended throughout the week. For many, it was their first encounter with St Carlo Acutis, the young Italian who used his gifts in technology to share his love of Jesus and the Eucharist with others.
Visitors frequently expressed their appreciation for the opportunity. One attendee described it as “an amazing experience”, while another commented, “We are so grateful to have the opportunity to experience this.” Others spoke of being inspired by Carlo himself, with one visitor remarking, “St Carlo is such an impressive young man.”
A particularly encouraging aspect of the visit was the sense of community it fostered. Conversations continued long after people had viewed the exhibition, with families, friends and parishioners gathering to share their reflections and discuss what they had seen. The exhibition became not only a place of learning, but also a space for prayer, encounter and conversation.
The Diocese of Cairns is grateful to the many volunteers, clergy, schools, parishes and supporters who helped make the visit possible, as well as to everyone who attended.
Following its time in Far North Queensland, the relic and exhibition will continue their journey through the Northern Territory and Western Australia, bringing the witness of St Carlo Acutis to new communities. We pray that all who encountered St Carlo during his visit to our diocese will continue to be inspired by his example of faith, joy and devotion to the Eucharist.
